About
GenScalpel is a program designed for specified-sequence retrieval and extraction from large-scale sequence sets in NCBI GenBank flatfile format. This routine task in bioinformatics analysis is a pressing need for laboratory biologists. Another objective of application development is to response to the new form of NCBI Nucleotide Sequence Database, which is updated in last December. In addition to the powerful sequence refinement application, GenScalpel, compared with its peers, provides convenient facilities for the multiple files batch-processing or web-based dynamic parsing. The program is written in PERL 5.12 with a stable graphical user interface (GUI). It provides user with a friendly window and menus environment for sequence assembly and analysis.

Download
The stable version may be downloaded as one tar.gz or zip file containing the program.
GenScalpel is available on:
System Requirements
GenScalpel is written purely in Perl. Through making installation packages, executables are compiled for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows, respectively. No more need for any Perl interpreter. We recommend a computer with at least 128 MB of RAM, 20 MB of available hard disk space. The program has been validated for cross-platform compatibility on operating systems mentioned above. For quick computation of large datasets, a faster processor and larger amount of physical memory will be needed.
Manual
There is a full manual that contains information on running the program as a stand alone application on your own machine. The PDF version of the manual can be downloaded here.
Feedback
Though we are using this software successfully, there's a small chance of bugs turning up somewhere. Should you find any, please contact us and we will squash them. We welcome comments and suggestions for new features or other improvements.
